LEAP: We're out to change the world...starting with ourselves.

Abundant beauty and heartbreaking poverty are present everywhere, often just a stone’s throw away from each other. LEAP has partnered with Carter Via of Cross Cultural Thresholds to offer hands-on philanthropic travel to see your global partner.

Threshold’s founder and executive director, Carter Via, began organizing and leading work trips and educational cross-cultural immersions in the early 1990s. As the founder and executive director of Bridges to Community Inc., he led hundreds of trips to Nicaragua for high school students, college students, families, churches, civic groups, and business leaders. In the late 1990s, Carter was introduced to the Kenyan legend Dr. Wangari Maathai, and designed the Green Belt Safaris. Since then, hundreds of volunteers have traveled to Kenya to work with the Drug Fighters School and witness the beauty of Kenya and her people. On these trips, volunteers engage in cross-cultural education, hands-on exposure to and participation in development projects, and a probing reflective process to assess the role of philanthropy in one’s life. To develop these concepts at a deeper level and carry them to a wider audience, Thresholds has recently partnered with Lauren Calahan, long-time educator, to create a leadership curriculum and expand our reach to schools, clubs, civic groups, religious communities, and professionals of all kinds.

A trip to visit your global partner can be planned at any point during your LEAP, and while we recommend Cross Cultural Thresholds, the trip can be run by an organization or director of your choice.
